Been trading with this broker for over a year now and am very happy with them. Despite their outstanding client support and trading options, their latest addition-the AAATrader app is a masterpiece.

AAATrade taking care of their clients, couldn’t make a deposit, showed me error. Find out that my bank declined a procedure for the safety, after calling to the support they were very friendly and helpful. I opened successfully account and after 12 hours I already opened first positions. Good Company with good reputation

AAATrade is a Cyprus-based broker that provides access to shares, as well as CFDs in stocks, forex, crypto, indices, and commodities. The broker is regulated and there is no minimum deposit amount, which means you can start trading with any amount you wish.

But should you? In this article I review AAATrade, what fees they charge, what they offer, what customer support is like, whether they are reputable, and a lot more. Read on before opening an account with this broker.

Is AAATrade Safe to Deposit and Trade With?

Is AAATrade Safe to Deposit and Trade With?

After examining AAATrade’s regulatory and security protocols, it appears the broker is likely safe to trade with based on how they are regulated and how they handle client funds.

AAATrade was founded in 2013 and is based in Cyprus. It is regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySec).

Being regulated is a key condition that traders look for in a broker; if a broker is regulated then it is under the supervision of a third party and must adhere to local laws.  CySec is referred to as a tier 2 regulator – better than no regulation, but not inspiring as much confidence as a tier 1 regulator such as those in the UK, US, Canada, or Australia.

AAATrade keeps client’s funds in a separate account, held in trust, which is another great feature traders look for in a broker. It means if AAATrade becomes insolvent, your funds are safe in a separate account and can’t be used by AAATrade. AAATrade has a TrustPilot score of 3.3 out of 5, but there are only 10 reviews.

AAATrade Trading Fees and Account Types

AAATrade Trading Fees and Account Types

AAATrade trading fees can get a little complicated, as there are significant differences based on the account type you open. Read this over carefully before deciding to open an account.

Here is a quick summary of the AAATrade account types:

Securities accountUsed for trading actual shares, not CFDs. There is no fee for trading, and you trade based on the live spreads which are available on the stock exchange. 0.65% per year fee (under €5 million), charged daily. The best choice if you want to trade stocks.

No leverage.

Novice accountUsed for trading CFDs. No commissions, but there is a large spread on all trades.

Leverage available.

Experienced accountUsed for trading CFDs. There is a commission charge, but this account offers lower spreads than with a Novice account.

Leverage available.

AAATrade also offers Portfolio Management and Financial Advisory services, but retail traders are likely most interested in the accounts above for trading purposes.

These accounts have drastically different fees. The chart below shows average spreads and commission costs to give you an overview of the fee structure of each account.

GBP/USD3 pip spread$4 / standard lot +

Looking at the fee structure and outline of the spreads AAATrade offers, there are some things to be wary of. The Novice and Experienced accounts both have high fees. The spreads are larger than what other brokers offer, and the spread on crypto is the highest I have seen from any broker.

Large spreads make it more difficult to trade profitability, since the price has to move such a large distance just for the trade to break even. To make things more complicated, there are different commission costs on the Experienced account for each asset traded.

each asset traded

Each stock exchange also has different commission costs and minimum charges.

different commission costs

AAATrade is charging

Considering there is also a spread on top of these commissions, AAATrade is charging quite high fees on the CFD accounts. The Securities account seems like a good deal, as it offers no commissions and market rate spreads (with no markup by AAATrade).

This may work well for you if you want to trade Securities without leverage. However, be aware of the hidden fees, such as those listed on this page.

One is the 0.65% “safe-keeping” fee per year, which is charged daily on your positions. For no commissions or spreads, that is not a bad fee to pay per year – but you will also want to check the other hidden fees on the link above and see if any apply to you.

There is no minimum deposit on any account, so you can deposit as much as you like. If you maintain a $£€25,000 balance, you receive a 5% discount on commissions.

Customers receive a 10% commission discount with a $£€100,000 balance. For crypto currencies, in addition to the spread, there is a 5% charge for converting crypto to fiat, and a 1% charge for converting one cryptocurrency to another.

AAATrade Trading Platforms and Apps

AAATrade Trading Platforms and Apps

AAATrade provides a number of trading platforms that can be used on the go or from a desktop. Here are the platforms offered.

No matter what market you want to trade, you can trade it from a mobile device or desktop with AAATrade.

  • AAATrade Web – Login via the website and trade. No download required.
  • AAATrade Mobile – Download the Android or Apple app and trade on the go.

AAATrade Mobile

  • MT5 Platform – Download MetaTrader 5 to your computer. Open the platform whenever you want to trade.
  • MT5 WebTrader – Log into your AAATrade account via MT5 and trade anywhere there is an internet connection. No download required.
  • MT5 Mobile – Prefer using the MT5 app to trade instead of the AAATrade Mobile platform? No problem. You can download MT5 to Android or Apple devices and trade on the go.
  • CryptoExchange – Open CryptoExchange by logging in to the AAATrade website or by downloading the app. The platform allows you to trade crypto with ease (just beware of AAATrade’s high spreads!)

MetaTrader 4 and 5 are popular forex trading platforms. They provide simple execution, charts, and the ability to code your own strategies and indicators – or even download and use other people’s codes. MT5 is a good choice to have.

I personally found the AAATrade platform lacking in features, especially when it comes to charting. There are too few indicators, not many time frame choices, not many chart types, and it was hard to zoom in and analyze historical price periods. That said, if you are doing your analysis elsewhere, the platform is suitable for placing trades.

AAATrade FAQs

AAATrade FAQs

Can I open a demo account with AAATrade?

Yes, you can try out a demo account. It is free and allows you to test out the platform and see how everything works before opening a real account and trading for real money. Attain consistent profitability in a demo account before using real capital.

Does AAATrade offer educational resources for traders?

Not really. They do provide some very brief technical analysis on a random asset each day, but there isn’t much in the way of in-depth or quality education material. They provide an FAQ section for common trading platform questions, but no in depth tutorials.

Can I trade on AAATrade from my smart phone?

Yes, you can trade on the go with AAATrade. An app is available for download on both the Apple and Google store. Choose between the MT5 app and the AAATrade app.

How much leverage does AAATrade offer?

Most products are offered at 30:1 leverage or less. Forex majors, for example, have 30:1 leverage. commodities and metals have 10:1 leverage. Cryptocurrencies are capped at 2:1 leverage. Stock CFDs have 5:1 leverage.

Is AAATrade suitable for novice traders?

Yes and no. While the trading platform is relatively straightforward to use, and the broker offers lots of different instruments to trade and is regulated, the commissions and spreads are high on CFD accounts. This is a disadvantage to novice traders, making it easier to lose (or to make less). The Securities account has lower fees and may be better suited to novices.

Can I trade with AAATrade if I’m a United States resident?

AAATrade does not offer services to residents of the US or to US passport holders. They also don’t offer services to any other countries where its services may contravene local laws.

Final Thoughts on AAATrade Broker

On the plus side, AAATrade is regulated and has been in operation since 2013. It has decent ratings in online reviews and offers a wide range of products to trade.

Its pricing is high, though, especially on the Novice and Experienced CFD accounts. The spreads are really large, and then a commission is paid on top of that in the Experienced account. The higher fees, the harder it is to make money over the long run.

For a Securities account, with no spreads and commissions, the 0.65% per year fee is decent. Just be aware of the hidden fees. The fees being charged on crypto trading are insanely high – the highest I have seen.

There are much better options out there for crypto and forex trading. For further reading, check out other brokers in our Forex Broker Reviews.
